Introduction

Introduction

Greenlight is a debit card and money app for families, managed by parents. Greenlight gives parents the tools to manage and monitor spending as well as pay allowance, assign chores, set savings goals, donate to charity and more.

The Challenge

The Challenge

Developed a financial education animated video series that was fun, engaging, and informative for the teen and pre-teen Greenlight audience. The series consisted of 120, 45-second videos that lived within the Greenlight app, in a product called Level Up. We were responsible for setting the creative direction for the product as a whole and producing all 120 animated videos.

In addition to the videos, we also needed to create: Thumbnails, stickers, Lottie files, and project guidebook for designers and animators.

Design Direction

Design Direction

3 different design directions that would resonate with our core audience (ages 8-18), and be accepted by our secondary audience (parents).

To create a visual identity that feels different than Greenlight competitors, but still feels like it belongs in this space.

All of our proposed styles were geared to be able to present information clearly, with illustrations that can be instantly recognized and tied back to the subject matter.

Animation Process

Animation Process

We begin with storyboards, sketching out rough designs to establish the overall story, timing, and visual direction. From there, we create a ‘boardomatic,’ which is essentially an edited version of the storyboard. This helps us lay out scenes, get a sense of timing, and sync the voiceover, providing a blueprint for the animation team to work from.

Once the rough designs are in place, we refine them, add bold colors, and pass the assets to our animators. The first step in animation is a basic ‘skeleton pass’—simple animations that ensure alignment with both the client and our internal team. After that, we dive deeper into polishing the animations, adding detail and finesse to bring the final piece to life.
